Geneva, Switzerland – The deadline for submitting nominations for the Youth Trade Summit on Gender, a prestigious event organized by the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the WTO Gender Research Hub, has been extended to 12 September.

The Summit aims to foster discussions on trade and gender issues and provide a platform for young professionals and researchers to engage with global stakeholders.

Candidates aged 20-35 are invited to participate in the Summit, which will take place on 13-14 November at the WTO’s headquarters in Geneva. The Youth Trade Summit on Gender seeks to empower young professionals and researchers by allowing them to exchange views and ideas on trade and gender-related matters. Participants will have the opportunity to interact with delegations from WTO member countries, senior researchers in the field, and other prominent stakeholders.

In addition, technical assistance and capacity building sessions will be provided to enhance participants’ understanding of the trade and gender nexus and facilitate meaningful discussions with experts. This Summit serves as a significant milestone between the first edition of the World Trade Congress on Gender, held in December 2022, and the upcoming edition scheduled for December 2024.

The Congress on Gender showcased research on women’s economic empowerment through trade and highlighted the importance of gender equality in trade policies. The Youth Trade Summit on Gender will feature various activities, including a book launch, a networking event, and an award ceremony.

The award ceremony aims to recognize pioneers in the field of trade and gender research, acknowledging their contributions to advancing gender equality in international trade.

To be eligible for nomination, candidates must be between 20 and 35 years old and demonstrate their involvement in trade and gender issues through their current work or express their interest in incorporating these issues into their ongoing projects.

Nominees are required to submit a motivation letter and complete an application form. Furthermore, nominations must be endorsed by their academic or research institution or government. Nominations must be submitted by WTO members and observers, as well as academic and research institutions, including foundations, research centers, think tanks, and policy research settings. Individual applications will not be considered.
The WTO’s Trade and Gender Office will be accepting nominations via email at trade-gender@wto.org.

The WTO Gender Research Hub will review all nominations and select a total of 50 participants for the Youth Trade Summit on Gender. The travel costs and expenses of the selected nominees must be covered by their nominating academic or research institution or government. For any inquiries regarding the call for nominations, interested parties can contact the

WTO’s Trade and Gender Office at trade-gender@wto.org. The establishment of the WTO Gender Research Hub in May 2021 marked a significant step toward advancing research on trade and gender. This network brings together researchers from international and regional organizations, as well as academic institutions, to explore the links between gender equality, women’s economic empowerment, and economic growth.

At the WTO’s 12th Ministerial Conference in June 2022, ministers recognized the importance of these connections and commended the organization’s efforts in this field. The Youth Trade Summit on Gender further builds upon these initiatives to create opportunities for young professionals in academia, research institutions, and government to engage in discussions and contribute to the advancement of trade and gender issues. By nurturing the talents of the next generation, the Summit aims to ensure a more inclusive and equitable future in the realm of international trade.
