New UNCTAD Report Spotlights Rwanda’s Transformative E-commerce Policy and Strategy

A groundbreaking report titled “Towards an E-commerce Strategy for Rwanda” released by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) brings to light Rwanda’s bold ambitions to leverage the rapidly expanding e-commerce sector for inclusive growth, job creation, and enhanced living standards.  

Rwanda recognizes the untapped potential of e-commerce in accessing regional and global markets, and as a result, the government has embarked on an innovative journey to develop a holistic policy and institutional framework. This framework aims to foster a “whole of government” approach to e-commerce, placing Rwanda at the forefront of the digital revolution and positioning it as a regional powerhouse.  

The recently published UNCTAD report provides an in-depth analysis of Rwanda’s National E-commerce Strategy, outlining its strategic initiatives and governance framework. The report highlights Rwanda’s vision to achieve sustained and inclusive development through digitalization and e-commerce, ultimately propelling the nation toward its goal of becoming an upper middle-income country by 2035.
